Vietnam
: one of the fastest growing market in the world |
|

Instead of talking about the economic boom of “BRIC”,
now people have shifted their focus to “VISA”
(Vietnam, Indonesia and South Africa), the fastest
growing markets in the world. With an average annual
growth in GDP of 7.4% from 2000 to the present,
Vietnam has become Asia’s second-fastest-growing
economy. Access to the WTO is also providing an
important boost to Vietnam's economy, and helping to
ensure the continuation of liberalizing reforms that
create options to expand international trade.

Industry Background |
|
Drinks market is growing rapidly
As Vietnam’s economy grows and its standard of living
rises, so will its consumption of drinks. The younger
target segment will contribute to the surge in soft
drink sales. Rural inhabitants of Vietnam are another
target consumer group gaining attention from drink
manufacturers. Vietnam’s soft drink market is
forecast to continue to grow between 2003-2008, with
an annual growth rate of nine percent. The increase in
drink consumption is driving the roaring demand for
related machinery. It is estimated that from now until
2010, demand in the beverage packaging industry will
grow 20-25% annually in Vietnam.
Great demand for brewery
equipment
Vietnam is a market with a lot of potential in the
eyes of foreign brewery investors because of its 15%
annual growth rate in the demand for beer. Foreign
investing enterprises are now seeking to expand their
production and raise their capacities. Local
enterprises, such as Hanoi Beer and Saigon Beer, will
also purchase modern equipment to reach the same level
as the production lines at foreign invested factories.
In addition, to face the fierce competition, small
local breweries are also encouraged to increase their
investment and to upgrade their production lines. All
these projects and small factories require related
equipment and technologies, which is a great
opportunity for overseas suppliers to enter the
Vietnamese market.
Vietnam's Tobacco Industry
As a result of its admission to the World Trade
Organization, the prohibition on the importation of
cigars and cigarettes will be eliminated. Vietnam has
confirmed that it is committed to eliminating the
prohibition on imports of cigars and cigarettes. This
may provide an opportunity for foreign tobacco
companies to introduce and launch new international
brands in Vietnam. At the same time, local
manufacturers have to upgrade their technologies and
equipment to face the fiercer competition.
